Izvleček:The Slovene government administration is undergoing an extensive modernization, including the reform of civil servant training system. The investment in training should be treated the same as all other organisational investments, and the evaluation of its effectiveness should be a part of the systematic approach to training. Since evaluation can trigger negative reactions, our research predominantly focused on the civil servants' attitudes towards training evaluation. An empirical study of 502 civil servants sheds light on the importance of respondents' demographics characteristics, especially the role of the hierarchical position, and the manner in which training is planned. Accurately defined training needs, training objectives, feedback on training achievements, play a major role in explaining the link between evaluation and training effectiveness.
