Opis
Izvleček:Slovenian officials are still emphasising the strategic location of Slovenia with respect to European logistic flows, especially the fact that it is located on the crossroads of the V. and X. Pan-European corridor. However, lately the Slovenian strategic position has been affected by certain developments. Namely, the European Commission initiated an extensive review process of the Trans-European Transport Network policy (TEN-T) defining 30 new priority projects and 10 priority corridors, which have to be implemented on the core transport network. As far as Slovenia is concerned, it is important to take into consideration the declaration on the extension of the TEN-T priority project 23 (Railway axis Gdansk-Warszaw-Brno/Bratislava-Vienna), which was recently signed in Brussels defining the 'Baltic-Adriatic Corridor' and its extension to Italy (via Carinthia) as a part of the so called 'TEN-T core network'. Additionally, there are several initiatives for further development of the axis connecting Rijeka with Budapest to the Baltic region. Both the priority project 23 and the mentioned initiatives are also supported through strategic research projects (BATCO, SONORA, SETA, etc.) and important investment plans and activities. Because of these changes, which will materialise within the next 5 to 10 years, competition between corridors and ports in the North Adriatic will become much more intense, requiring new investments and important changes in Slovenia's strategic orientation and specialisation, as well as changes in strategic partnerships and technologies. Taking into consideration the new corridors bypassing Slovenia on the North and on the South, the erecting of new railway connections on these corridors, as well as planned investments in modern intermodal transhipment capacities at several strategic locations on these corridors, Slovenia has to redefine its transport and logistics strategy.
