Opis
Izvleček:Currently, conventional energy sources, i.e. fossil fuels, represent the main share regarding electricity generation. During the combustion process fuel is burned within oxidant (air) and carbon dioxide is formed as a by-product. This study considers carbon capture as a promising solution for the environmental problems we are now facing. Based on previous research, it has been shown that the most reasonable solution would be carbon dioxide capturing from large energy facilities, such as coal power plants. Furthermore, post-combustion capture (PCC) is recognised as being the most appropriate technology for capturing. The main purpose of our study was to investigate the correlation between the efficiency of carbon dioxide capturing and its influence on the reduction of electricity production efficiency at the thermal power plant of Termoelektrarna Šoštanj. A simple zero-dimensional model was used for appropriately considering the flows of mass and energy within the PCC system as a function of carbon dioxide capture efficiency. By changing the efficiency of the capture system, as well as the evaluated prices of carbon emissions, our results show the possible economic eligibilities of these systems by 2050.
