| 520 | |a Comparing to other energy sources, geothermal energy is a clean, renewable, constant and available worldwide. Due to its reduction capacity in greenhouse gas emissions, this energy is already being used for electricity generation and direct utilization. For Morocco, the use of geothermal energy, among otherrenewable resources, is primordial in order to break the current dependence on fossil fuel and electricity imports. By 2020, the country is planning to obtain 42% of its power from its own renewable sources. This paperpresents the status of energy needs and renewable, potential, utilizationand the different possibilities of geothermal energy use in Morocco. It also gives a comparison between geothermal energy and the other energy sources regarding environmental issues. It is expected that geothermal energy development will provide considerable environmental benefits by reducing the release of the CO2 emission into the atmosphere, estimated at around 49.9 million ton in Morocco. | ||
