Opis
Izvleček:The article focuses deals with different approaches to the analysis of direct and indirect expressionof emotions in persuasive political discourse. It gives a historical overview of different analytical approaches to emotive language in political discourse. The use of more recent approaches to the analysis of persuasive discourse is illustrated with examples from modern political discourse in English and Slovene using the methodology of more recent analytical models, such as critical discourse analysis, cognitive linguistics and the appraisal theory. It is argued that such insights into the functioning of language help to reveal in which way the building of consensus through the emotive aligning of the speaker with his or her audience is achieved as an essential feature of persuasive discourse. It is also argued that even in the context of the global media domination of today's society, emotive aligning of the speaker with the audience through language is still at the core of most political persuasion.
