Opis
Izvleček:In the early nineties the business literature is flooded with the term capability. Resource-based view scholars use the term to explain the ultimate source of sustainable competitive advantage. The incorporation of RVB ideas into the field of manufacturing strategy sparked a conflict with the already well-established marked-based view. In this paper the authors set themsselves the question how the external environment affects the capabilities accumulation process. The capabilities accumulation process is an engineering- and manufacturing-driven organisation that was explored from an evolutionary perspective. As a result of preliminary findings the paper introduces a model, which explains the dynamics of the process under consideration. The interpretation of field data shows that the external environment and the internal context influence the strategic behaviour in the different phases of the process differently. The same can be said about the relationship between rational planning and a more emergent view on strategy.
