| 520 | |a The geographical position as the esential space categorydefines, by all means, the significance of the position of Croatia in the European economic, legal-political and transport area. As it is situated in big geographical and natural regions-the Alphine region, the Pannonian plains (the Danube region), the Adriatic (Mediterranean) and the Dinar mountain range- the country is predetermined as the ideal "communications space". In such a traffic environment, the Rijeka cross-road, the most important transport centre of the "Primorsko-goransko" district and one of the most relevant ones in the Republic of Croatia, has been developing for centuries. The purpose and goal of this scientific discussion showed the need to be dealt with from the macro-aspect and within the following thematic areas: the port of Rijeka as the military Croatian and a major European port; Rijeka and the longitudinal European - Croatian route; Rijeka and the transversal European - Croatian transport route and the development directives of the Rijeka transport crossroad acting as an element of the involvement into the Croatian and European transport and economic flows. Within the final thematic area the development guidelines of the naval, rail, road, areal, pipe-line, mail and telecommunications transport (and traffic) system are being elaborated, all with regard to the integration of the Rijeka transport cross-road into the Croatian and European transport and economic flows. | ||
