The microstructure of Cu-C composite produced by internal carbonisation of rapidly solidified Cu ribbons = Gefüge eines Cu-C-verbundverstoffs hergestellt durch innere Aufkohlung rasch erstarrter Cu-Bänder /

A new processing technique consisting of rapid solidification and internal carbonization was used to produce a discontinuous copper-graphite composite. In this process the rapid solidification served to obtain a high concentration of defects in the copper crystal lattice, which were acting as nuclea...

520 |a A new processing technique consisting of rapid solidification and internal carbonization was used to produce a discontinuous copper-graphite composite. In this process the rapid solidification served to obtain a high concentration of defects in the copper crystal lattice, which were acting as nucleation sites of graphite in the subsequent internal carbonisation process. The results of experimental studies confirmed the formation of microstructure consisting of continuous three-dimensional copper matrix and homogeneous fine dispersed graphite particles of submicron size. The volume fraction of precipitated particles depended on the started microstructure of the Cu matrix, and on the temperature and time of the internal carbonisation process. About 15 vol. % of graphite particles has been obtained with the proposed manufacturing technique.
