Summary: | Modern organizations are able to assure their continued existence and long-term development on the base of satisfaction of end-customers' needs and demands. For this reason organizations are confronted with the dilemma of how to redesign their work behavior to obtain desired target results. Creating a virtual organization is an important organizational and/or management innovation that embraces supply chain management, as a concept of managing the entire chain ranging from raw material supply, to manufacture, assembly and distribution and to supplying the end customer. The important decisions in supply chain management are: how much of the supply chain should be owned by each business part/unit and how to link different parts of a supply chain. For the integration of a supply chain we can use different types of links, e.g. vertical and horizontal integrations. For design, creation and implementation of different integrations we can use different organizational approaches, which can range from classic organization to virtual organization. At the same time each organization can be supported also within different organizational structures. This contribution discusses two theses: 1) How virtual organization supports supply chain flow and supply chain management and 2) How a virtual organizational structure supports the operation of supply chain management. |
